Volunteer Job Descriptions
Volunteer Duties:
Have fun! This is a fun day and we want you to have fun while you are volunteering.
Be prepared to answer questions from spectators, and if you don’t know the answer, ask someone who does.
Be pleasant and helpful, but be comfortable in being firm within your designated area if you need to be.
Bring hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water - be prepared to be outside in the sun!
Parade Check-In Unit
Checks-in arriving parade entries and volunteers. Gives entries their parade number, gives instructions on lining up and offers refreshments. Encourages them to return for awards.
Gives volunteers their assignment and instructions. Makes sure they have everything they need and they know who to ask for help if needed,
Makes sure they have a T-Shirt and refreshments.
Traffic/Barricade Unit
Sets up barricades and all entryways and staffs street closures to ensure safety of all participants.
Greet and direct arriving participants to appropriate staging parking lots.
Decorators and Un-decorators
Works with the decor lead to ensure all 4th of July parade committee sponsored band trucks are decorated in a nice manner, all decorations are secure on vehicles and are not in danger of falling off.
At the conclusion of the parade, un-decorators quickly remove all decorations from the sponsored band floats and put back in the appropriate storage bins for the following year
Must enjoy working as a team in a fast paced environment! This all happens rather quickly.
Parade Monitor
Walks the parade route, makes sure that all are safe (in coordination with the OPD) and makes sure there are no gaps between vehicles.
Reports any problems to Parade Chair.
